About the Artist
Ingrid Amuri Rutherford (b. 1962) is a visual artist living and working in Son, Norway. She grew up in Canada with a Norwegian mother from Skjeberg in Østfold and a father from New Zealand, and has lived in Norway since 1988 — first in Oslo, then in Son for the past 12 years.
Ingrid holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Queen’s University in Canada, a four-year fine art education from Ontario College of Art in Toronto, and a two-year education in graphic design.
She runs Paint & Fun Norway (founded 2018), offering creative art experiences and instruction. Ingrid is the leader of Vestby Kunstforening (Vestby Art Association), where she organizes exhibitions, art walks and community events.
Artistic Vision
“As a visual artist I work in both oil and acrylic. I use clear and bold colors, exploring the interplay between different color shades and temperatures. My goal is for my paintings to challenge, engage, and trigger something in the viewer — deepening people’s connection to nature’s power and sense of place.”
Artistic Practice
Ingrid creates bold, colorful paintings in both oil and acrylic, seeking “a place between reality and abstraction.” Her works have strong “wall power” — vivid images that command the room they hang in.
Her subjects include local architecture and landscapes from Son, forest scenes, fjord views, and conceptual explorations of life’s expectations versus lived reality. Son — a historic coastal town on the Oslofjord with roots dating back to the 1500s and a rich artist colony tradition from 1900–1920 — is a constant source of inspiration.
Vestby Kunstforening
As leader of Vestby Kunstforening (Vestby Art Association), Ingrid organizes exhibitions, art walks, an art book club and community events. She manages the rotating exhibition program at Solhøy care facility and the annual autumn exhibition at Vestby Rectory.
In 2022, she represented Vestby Kunstforening on the jury for the Vestby municipality architectural heritage award.

Art in Son
Son is a historic coastal town on the Oslofjord, listed by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage as a nationally important cultural environment since 2013. The town has a rich artist colony tradition from 1900–1920, and the vibrant art scene lives on today with several galleries, artist workshops and annual events like Kunstvandring i Son (Art Walk in Son). Nearby lies Hvitsten, where Edvard Munch owned his property Nedre Ramme from 1910 to 1944.
